3D Secure on Collins Pay

Security checks that customers go through when making payments or deposits.

What is 3D Secure?

3D Secure stands for 3 Domain Server.

There are three parties that are involved in the 3D Secure process:

  • The company where the purchase is being made.

  • The Acquiring Bank.

  • VISA and MasterCard, the card issuers themselves.

3D Secure is a system that is used to verify a customer’s identity before an online purchase can be completed.

With 3D Secure, customers are redirected to a page provided by their bank, where they are prompted to enter an additional password before their card can be charged.

Since 3D Secure is essentially an authentication system, it helps prevent fraud.

In Access Collins, we are committed to helping our clients prevent potential fraud, chargebacks while keeping any customer burden to a minimum.

As this is implemented in the system, if a customer has 3D Secure active on their card and is processing a transaction for £100 or more, they will be asked for their secure password. For this reason, we would recommend that any payments £100+ are sent using the secure request payment link for the customer to fill out themselves.

If you are using a manual payment link, you may be asked for the customer's secure password while on the phone to them.

📌Note: This will not always apply when authenticating a customer's card. With authentication, customers will only be asked to go through 3D Secure if the postcode they have supplied does not match the postcode that the card is registered to.


Isn’t 3D Secure mandatory for some card types?

Not all cards will have 3D Secure active; different cards and banks will have 3D Secure on or off, but Maestro cards require 3D Secure.

Can I edit the message that is sent to my customer?

The message that is sent to guests via email is automated by our payment provider Stripe, and cannot be edited, as it is hardcoded in the system.
